Dissolved air flotation (DAF) offers many uses in reducing organic and inorganic loadings on downstream wastewater treatment equipment. DAF is a very versatile product to include in a process, especially to remove suspended particles and insoluble BOD with a specific gravity of 1.2 or less (particle size of less than 5 microns in size). It can also be used when particle density is too close to that of the carrier liquid and as a result exhibits neutral gravity. In this case, DAF induces sufficient gravity differential to augment separation.
Typical applications include food processing plants, oil refineries and chemical plants to remove emulsified oils which have been de-emulsified by chemical addition.
